LANSING — Yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee took testimony a bill that would take away health care from nearly hundreds of thousands of Michiganders. In response, state Rep. Kristy Pagan (D-Canton) issued the following statement:
“This bill isn’t about putting people to work. It is about cutting health care. Beyond its cruel nature, this legislation is categorically bad policy and fiscally irresponsible. It completely disregards why so many Michigan residents have been unable to secure employment. There is no consideration for those who may need child care, access to transportation or job training. This legislation, its sponsor and its supporters are sending Michiganders in all corners of the state a clear message that their health and well-being are not a priority. There is no evidence that taking health care coverage away from people will help them find a job or gain greater financial independence. In contrast, my House Democratic colleagues and I stand with working families throughout our state in fighting for the health coverage they need and deserve.”
