LANSING — State school Superintendent Brian Whiston passed away Monday night, following a battle with cancer. In response, House Democratic Floor Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) issued the following statement:
“As we pay tribute to Michigan teachers this Teacher Appreciation Week, it’s tragic that we must also say goodbye to Brian Whiston, who was a fierce fighter for Michigan children and our school system. I will forever value Brian for the hard work he did on behalf of Oakland County schools, and treasure the memories I have of working alongside him on the Michigan PTA board of directors. Brian was passionate about seeing Michigan ascend to one of the 10 best education states within the next 10 years, and I can think of no greater legacy for him than to make that happen. My heart goes out to the Whiston family and Brian’s friends as they mourn this loss.”
