LANSING — The House of Representatives voted on the Fiscal Year 2018-19 school and general budgets. State Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) voted against both the General Omnibus and School Omnibus budgets. In response, Rep. Yancey issued the following statement:
“This budget is far from our best effort, and the holes in funding will hold back the people of my district and our state. The funding for the Wayne County Port Authority is still below the levels necessary for success, and there is an inexplicable gap created by the elimination of funding for career training grants. Our communities need funding for Michigan Education Corps; they were counting on us to keep our promise to restore the lives of those who were falsely accused of unemployment fraud. We failed them. These are dollars that are needed for our communities to be successful. I voted no because I cannot support budgets that take money away from communities and citizens that so desperately need it.”
