LANSING — The Supreme Court announced its decision validating the Trump Administration’s ban on visitors coming from, predominately Muslim nations, from entering the country . In response, state Rep. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“As a nation of immigrants, we can hardly be true to our identity and become stronger if we choose to exclude groups based on their religion or culture. Here in Michigan we have families and individuals from the nations that are included in the travel ban. I have seen with my own eyes the wonderful contributions they have made to our local communities and our state. We are truly a melting pot and we should be welcoming people to our shores, not turning them away because of baseless generalizations and prejudices. I am disappointed the Supreme Court did not exercise its power to protect our most sacred ideals.”
