DETROIT — It was announced today that Bridging North America is the winning bidder for constructing and operating the new trade crossing between the cities of Detroit and Windsor. In response, state Rep. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“This morning I was excited to attend the announcement by the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority about the selection of Bridging North America as the preferred proponent to design, build, operate and maintain the Gordie Howe International Bridge as part of a public-private partnership. Since taking office in 2015, it has been my honor to be a part of the Community Advisory Group that has worked in partnership with the WDBA, the state of Michigan and the city of Detroit to advocate for a bridge with benefits to the Delray and Southwest Detroit community I serve.

“Soon, the Gordie Howe International Bridge will not only forever change the skyline in Detroit, but will also significantly improve the efficiency of travel and trade between Detroit and Windsor and create thousands of jobs in both the short and long term. Detroit is being restored to its role as the economic engine that powers Michigan. I look forward to working in collaboration with Bridging North America and the residents I serve as this necessary new trade crossing becomes a reality, to ensure that we do as much as we can to protect and enhance the quality of life, public health and economic vitality for Southwest Detroiters close to the bridge.”
