LANSING — Over the weekend, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, issued a ‘Do Not Eat’ advisory for all fish caught in the Huron River and surrounding bodies between Milford in Oakland County and Base Line and Portage Lakes on the Washtenaw and Livingston County lines. In response, state Rep. Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:
“Our drinking water is already threatened by a dioxane plume heading toward the Huron River. This latest chemical discovery only compounds the urgency needed to ensure the drinking water in our private wells and community water sources is clean and safe for our families. We cannot continue to allow chemicals into our watershed. It is past time to be proactive and require not only safe operating practices but also complete cleanup by polluters.”
