LANSING — State Rep. Tim Sneller (D-Burton) introduced a companion bill to his House Bill 5190 — legislation signed into law earlier this year that will allow Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) to be issued a national sporting event liquor license — providing another opportunity to strengthen Michigan’s economy. House Bill 6228 would expand the Michigan Liquor Control Code to include the Ladies PGA Tour Champions Tournament for certain calendar years.
“For our local communities to grow and thrive, we need to make Michigan more attractive for organizations and businesses to bring economic opportunities here. I remain dedicated to building opportunities that will bring more money and jobs to my friends and neighbors in the district, and that is precisely what this legislation will do,” said Sneller. “I am proud of the success we had with opening the men’s PGA to receive this license, and I hope to replicate that for the Ladies PGA, too.”
Sneller’s HB 5190, now Public Act 110 of 2018, and HB 6228 come ahead of the upcoming Ally Challenge at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc next month. The PGA Tour Champions and Ally Financial will be debuting the event the week of Sept. 10-16. The PGA Tour held an annual Buick Open event at Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc for 45 years through 2009.
