LANSING — Yesterday, it was announced that Detroit Public Schools Community District will shut off water to its schools due to elevated lead and copper levels. In response, state Rep. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit), issued the following statement:
“In the Great Lakes State of all places, we should never have to worry about access to clean drinking water. Yet years of disinvestment in our schools, combined with inaction dealing with our broken infrastructure, has resulted in an entire city of children attending schools without running water. It’s time Republican leadership in the state took responsibility for the problems they’ve allowed to continue, and get down to work. I will be working with Superintendent Vitti to provide clean water to our kids and with my Democratic colleagues in Lansing to demand action on infrastructure solutions now.”
