LANSING — Last week, the House of Representatives voted on a bipartisan package of bills that would strengthen railway worker safety. Included in the package is House Bill 5643, sponsored by state Rep. Tim Sneller (D-Burton), which would amend the state’s Vehicle Code to include “other on-track equipment” for when a warning is activated and the person driving a vehicle must stop at a railroad crossing. In response, Rep. Sneller issued the following statement:
“Working people throughout our state should have the peace of mind knowing that they are protected and safe while on the job, especially our construction and railway workers who often operate in hazardous conditions. I was proud to sponsor this legislation to protect the working people in our state, and I appreciate my colleagues in the House for recognizing the value of this legislation. I hope our colleagues in the Senate will appreciate how meaningful this package is and act on it soon.”
