LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Tom Cochran (D-Mason) issued the following statement:
“Every person in Michigan deserves the opportunity to earn a strong paycheck and to take time to heal when they are sick — that’s why 400,000 people across Michigan fought to see those freedoms enshrined into law. To gut those protections now is nothing but an unprecedented attack by the majority to subvert our democratic process without debate or discussion.”
