LANSING — Earlier this week, House Republicans approved Senate Bill 1176 which will exempt nonprofit entities capable of making political contributions from having to publicly disclose the personal information of their donors. All Democrats voted against the dark money proposal. In response to its passage, state Rep. Kristy Pagan (D-Canton) issued the following statement:

“We all know that Michigan ranks dead last in transparency and accountability, receiving an “F” from the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity, yet Republicans in the Legislature continue to push for more darkness and secrecy around campaign contributions. It’s time we brought to light who really influences our elections. This bill is a step in the wrong direction and severely limits public transparency around the democratic process.”
