LANSING — House Democrats announced their 2019-2020 leadership selections today, which included the appointment of state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) as Democratic Whip. Camilleri is entering his second term representing the 23rd House District. Before being elected to the Legislature, Camilleri worked as a high school social studies teacher in Detroit, and served as a Brownstown Parks and Recreation Commissioner. During his first term, Camilleri served as Assistant Democratic Leader and sat on the Education Reform and Energy Policy committees. He was also the Minority Vice Chair for Commerce and Trade.

In response to today’s announcement, Rep. Camilleri issued the following statement:

“I’m excited to take on this new leadership role in the State House because I can bring an even stronger voice to the table for Downriver and our issues. The people of Michigan made their voices heard on Election Day, and they want a government that works for them and puts their needs ahead of corporate profits.
