LANSING — Today, House Republicans and Democrats introduced a bipartisan package of legislation to increase transparency in state government. State Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) introduced House Bill 4016 in the package, which would allow council administrators to decide appeals of public record requests. In response, Rep. Camilleri issued the following statement:

“Michigan’s government is meant to work for the people, not just the wealthy and well-connected. By increasing transparency for our elected officials, we will be putting power back in the hands of our state’s hardworking men and women — where it belongs — and allowing them to hold their leaders accountable. This legislation is a common-sense and necessary move to strengthen the integrity of our democracy.”
