DAVISON — The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced a series of grant awards this week to several municipal and private partners to provide funding for community scrap tire drop-off events. State Rep. Sheryl Kennedy (D-Davison) celebrated the announcement that JMR Property II, LLC would be receiving $95,000 for safe tire disposal events throughout Genesee County. According to the MDEQ, improperly dumped scrap tires pose fire hazards and create breeding grounds for insects like mosquitoes.
“I’m thrilled to see that MDEQ awarded a grant to one of our very own local businesses to provide a safe place to recycle scrap tires,” said Kennedy. “Disposing of these tires responsibly is not only about keeping our environment clean, but the raw recycled material can be used for asphalt to pave our roads and manufacturing – a huge boon for our communities. Offering affordable, convenient locations to drop off scrap tires is a small step that has a big impact on improving the lives of our families.”
