TROY — The Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) announced this week that the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) board approved incentives to Wellmei US Inc. to aid in the establishment of the company’s first North American manufacturing operation. The new plant will be built in the city of Troy and is expected to bring 71 new jobs to the area over the next five years. State Rep. Padma Kuppa (D-Troy) welcomed the good news and noted that the project is also expected to generate a total private investment of nearly $2 million.
“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for the people of our community,” said Kuppa. “These new jobs will go a long way in providing our families with the economic security they deserve. I would like to thank the MEDC for their hard work on this project, and I look forward to working with stakeholders like them during my time in office to bring these much-needed opportunities to the District.”
First established in China in 1988, Wellmei produces molds and parts for the automotive, packaging, home appliance, medical, and office equipment industries. The manufacturing operation in Troy plans to create molds for the automotive and medical industries. The City of Troy is offering marketing services and talent assistance to support the development of the project.
