LANSING — Wednesday, the Speaker of the House announced committee assignments for the 2019-20 legislative session. State Rep. Kyra Bolden (D-Southfield) was named Democratic vice chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and will also serve on the House Judiciary and Insurance Committees, as well as the Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates.
“I am grateful to Speaker Chatfield for providing me the opportunity to serve in this new capacity,” said Rep. Bolden. “Families in our communities have been paying the highest auto insurance rates in the nation for far too long, and I am ready to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to finally provide Michiganders comprehensive relief. Much of my legal career has centered around no-fault insurance and I’m glad I can share that knowledge and experience here in Lansing.”
Rep. Bolden is serving her first term representing the 35th House District which includes Southfield, Lathrup Village, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms and Franklin. Rep. She graduated from Grand Valley State University before receiving her Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Before joining the Legislature, Rep. Bolden practiced as a civil litigation attorney, specializing in no-fault insurance law.
