LANSING — Yesterday, it was announced that Olga Loizon, Birmingham resident and founder of Olga’s Kitchen, died at the age of 92. Olga’s Kitchen began with a small Birmingham location in 1970, and after becoming a metro Detroit favorite, quickly began opening new locations throughout the state, and even around the country. State Rep. Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) issued the following statement in response:
“Olga Loizon was a pioneer; a first-generation Greek-American small business owner who mentored female entrepreneurs in Metro Detroit. Despite the many obstacles women faced when she opened her own business, she was able to defy the odds to make her dream a reality and use her platform to elevate female small business owners through her foundation. Olga’s name will live on in the legacy she leaves behind and the contributions she made to our community and state.”
