LANSING — Tonight, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her first State of the State address, outlining her vision for the state and calling for bipartisan collaboration to address the issues facing Michigan’s working families. In response, state Rep. Jewell Jones (D-Inkster) issued the following statement:
“After listening to Gov. Whitmer’s address tonight, I believe everyone in the room is leaving with a renewed passion for improving the lives of the people of our communities. Through a renewed commitment to improving our schools and supporting our students, we can provide our young people limitless opportunities to uplift themselves by setting them on a path for success. And for those who are embarking on their paths of success, we must be inspired to propel ourselves and each other to higher heights. Uniting, in solidarity, for the collective good, no matter what side of the state you’re from, or what political party you represent, will guarantee a win for the people. Only together can we forge a brighter future for the people of Michigan, and I look forward to working with leaders in our community like Chief Riley to get that work done.”
Rep. Jones was joined by Inkster Chief of Police William Riley, who has been busy reducing violence and crime, as well as introducing successful community policing to Inkster’s residents.
