LANSING — This week, the state health department confirmed a case of measles in Oakland County. Reports indicate that a traveler who was infected with the virus visited Oakland County from March 6-13 and visited a number of businesses and institutions in the metro Detroit area, resulting in possible exposure to the illness. In response, state Rep. Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) issued the following statement:
“In times like this it is important to remain calm and listen to the advice of health officials. It is vital that everyone get vaccinated. Being vaccinated is the best way to protect against Measles. If you develop symptoms, stay home from work or school and contact your doctor to arrange for what to do next. While news like this can be frightening, it is important to remember that health officials recommend being proactive out of an abundance of caution. Those in charge are trained to handle these situations, and I trust them to continue with the care and expertise needed to keep our community safe.”
