FLINT — Last week, state Rep. Sheldon A. Neeley (D-Flint) sent a letter to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer seeking help to get two community support programs off the ground. The first is a non-income based water heater replacement program for residents to address concerns of another Legionnaires’ outbreak. Rep. Neeley also proposed the creation of a community help center to centralize access to essential services.
“The people of Flint have persevered through a decade plagued with public health and economic crises, and despite those challenges, we have survived and become stronger,” said Rep. Neeley. “Even though the TV cameras are gone, our journey toward justice and restoration is not over. I made these proposals to the governor to address the needs of the community and continue to try and repair the crisis of confidence our community has suffered. We have already found new hope in this administration and in others who have shown their continued support, and I look forward to talking with Gov. Whitmer about how we move forward.”
Rep. Neeley has been a steadfast and vocal advocate for Flint throughout the water crisis and continues to work on pursuing solutions within the Legislature to ensure Flint residents have the resources they need.
