TRENTON — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell at Trenton City Hall for a budget presentation and roundtable with local elected officials and community leaders. Gov. Whitmer highlighted key issues facing the community and state and her solutions for addressing them, including increasing funding for road and bridge repairs as well as K-12 and higher education funding, including for skills and career training.
“I was honored to welcome Gov. Whitmer to our Downriver community to share her vision to strengthen our schools and communities,” said Rep. Camilleri. “I look forward to working with the governor to ensure that we build a Downriver to last by tackling our infrastructure problems, making sure every community has access to clean drinking water, and finally funding our schools.”
Rep. Camilleri, a former public school teacher, serves as Democratic vice-chair on the House Education Committee where he is advocating for the more than $500 million increase in K-12 education funding proposed in Gov. Whitmer’s budget. The increase would be the largest K-12 funding increase in a generation of Michigan students.
