LANSING — State Rep. Abdullah Hammoud (D-Dearborn) was honored by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan last week with the 2019 Champion of Hope award for his commitment, dedication and hard work on issues related to public health and environmental protections.

“I’m humbled by this recognition and am committed to continuing our work advocating for the public health and environment here in Michigan,” said Hammoud. “While I recognize there is much work still to be done to ensure every person’s right to health care and a healthy environment, I am hopeful that Michigan can lead the way toward a brighter, more equitable future for all our residents.”

So far this term, Hammoud has introduced legislation to ensure all Michigan residents have access to clean, affordable water, as well as legislation tackling the issue of drunk driving. Hammoud has spent his career fighting for every individual’s right to health care, leading a successful initiative to promote health and wellness among refugees with diabetes throughout the Middle East before joining the Michigan Legislature.
