The Senate Fiscal Agency released its analysis of the House Republican auto insurance bill, HB 4397, that was passed early last Thursday morning. The Senate Fiscal Agency found that the bill could cost an estimated $65 million in additional Medicaid costs over ten years. In response, state Rep. Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) issued the following statement:
"The irresponsible, rushed legislative process led by House Republicans has yielded a predictably disastrous conclusion. Term-limited legislators who will never face the voters again have crafted a sweetheart backroom deal for the insurance industry and Michigan taxpayers will be on the hook for it. This is a bad bill and cannot be allowed to become law."
