LANSING — Following weeks of bipartisan negotiations, the House passed a sweeping overhaul of Michigan’s auto insurance system today. The final bill includes several provisions put forward by House Democrats including the elimination of non-driving rate-setting factors, guaranteed rate reductions and increased consumer protections. In response, state Rep. Alex Garza (D-Taylor) issued the following statement:
“I came to Lansing with the goal of working across party lines to deliver meaningful auto insurance reform including guaranteed lower rates and an end to the discriminatory use of non-driving factors in determining our rates. I’m proud to say that this product of bipartisan compromise will address these issues and ensure Michiganders receive the relief they deserve.”
