LANSING — State Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) and Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin held a town hall at Sexton High School in Lansing last week, allowing over 200 attendees to ask questions, receive answers and partake in an informed discussion regarding important issues to the community, state and nation. Particular topics of interest to many Michigan residents attending were the effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on the state’s water sources and the funding of higher education institutions.
“I was proud to partner with Congresswoman Slotkin, as a fellow woman representing Lansing, to give our community a space to ask questions and voice their concerns about the parts of state government that impact them every day,” said Anthony. “I am beyond grateful for the high level of civic engagement in my district – it truly help me uplift the voices of our community in the state Legislature. I look forward to continuing to work together with Lansing residents to make real, state-level progress for families in Michigan.”
Beyond local and state policy concerns, issues affecting Michiganders on a national scale were also discussed between Anthony, Slotkin and attendees. Residents asked questions about water quality and how federal environmental policies would impact the health of the Great Lakes. In addition, the wave of anti-abortion legislation introduced in Michigan, as well as other states across the U.S. raised a discussion about the importance of protecting access to reproductive health care.
