LIVONIA — After a closed session, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission voted recently to formally reprimand the state’s Department of Civil Rights Director, Agustin Arbulu, for making inappropriate comments objectifying women and creating an offensive work environment. Last week, it was revealed the comments included remarks about his daughter. In response, state Rep. Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia) is calling for his resignation, and has issued the following statement:

“The comments made by Director Arbulu are deeply disturbing, stripping him of the credibility and public confidence necessary to lead the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. The flippant manner in which he made such inappropriate comments demonstrates that he does not fully understand the gravity of his remarks or their impact on those he is charged to serve. As such, Director Arbulu should immediately resign from his position.”
