LANSING — This morning Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ordered the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to issue emergency rules to protect Michigan’s kids from the harmful effects of vaping. The governor’s order bans the sale of flavored nicotine vaping products, and misleading marketing regarding their safety. In response, state Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“I applaud Gov. Whitmer for putting the health of Michigan’s children first. Studies have shown that young people who have used flavored e-cigarettes are more likely to start smoking combustible cigarettes in the future, reviving a public health crisis we were on the verge of ending. I am proud to represent a state that takes this seriously and chooses to serve as a leader to the rest of the nation on this issue.”
