LANSING — House Democrats announced legislation at a press conference yesterday to reduce the undue strain many families in the state are facing due to job insecurity, stagnant wages and rising costs. In response, state Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit), who sponsored legislation in the package, issued the following statement:

“Skilled trade professionals play a crucial role in moving Michigan’s economy forward, yet over the last few decades, fewer and fewer people have been choosing these professions, causing a labor shortage that is projected to  grow if nothing is done. With the right protections in place–like the ones our package addresses–careers in the skilled trades are some of the most stable, good-paying jobs around. That’s why it’s critical legislators, union leaders, and industry leaders take action to promote these careers as viable options, especially for women, who are increasingly the sole or primary breadwinners in their homes.”
