LANSING — The Michigan House of Representatives approved state budgets today for Fiscal Year 2019-2020. In response to the passing of the proposed Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) budget, state Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit), who voted against the budget, issued the following statement:

“Significant overhaul of Michigan’s no-fault auto insurance system cannot be successful with the budget that was passed by our Legislature. Instead of empowering DIFS by providing the adequate funding support it requires to provide the level of service Michiganders deserve, we left the Department unable to carry out the very functions the reform passed earlier this year called for. The lack of consumer protections in this budget instead undermines that effort — it is disingenuous to say you’re fighting for insurance reform and then pass a budget which makes that reform impossible. Detroiters and other communities across Michigan deserve much more than what this budget offers.”
