LANSING — The House of Representatives approved state budgets today for Fiscal Year 2019-20. In response, state Rep. Sara Cambensy (D-Marquette) issued the following statement:
“There were many areas where elected officials in Lansing agreed on the proposed budget today. However, the ‘record road funding’ claims put forth from my Republican colleagues in their budgets fail to say they cleverly cut our Secretary of State’s general fund budget for redistricting, as well as made several other cuts to department budgets in order to get that $400 million in revenue. If there was that much waste in those budgets, why didn’t we makes these cuts over the last eight years for road funding when Republicans held those offices?
“They also fail to say that they refused to talk about everyone paying their fair share of taxes by raising corporate tax rates back to 2010 levels or ending the dark store tax loopholes to recover lost revenue. I stood with the majority of U.P. residents who overwhelmingly opposed the 45 cent gas tax increase. And when I brought forward the above fair share revenue solutions, an overwhelming majority of them said they stand with me.”
