LANSING — A march and rally was held in downtown Lansing today to educate the public on choices they will be required to make once the auto insurance reform law takes effect in 2020. Several state legislators joined with members from statewide organizations, survivors of auto accidents and over a thousand attendees for the event. In response, state Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit), who attended and spoke at the event, issued the following statement:
“I remain committed to fighting on behalf of the Michiganders trying to put their lives back together after being injured or surviving an auto accident, and Detroiters who have been systematically locked out of affordable auto insurance rates for years due to redlining. The new law was intended to fix our state’s out-of-touch auto insurance system, but to actually achieve these goals, the recently passed legislation requires us to fix the fix. Michigan drivers need rate reductions on their entire bill, not just for personal injury protection, commonly referred to as PIP, along with the peace of mind that they can still access the insurance coverage and care they need to recover in the event of an accident. It’s our responsibility as elected officials to ensure all our residents are aware of the realities they may face when this law goes into effect, and I take that job very seriously.”
