LANSING — Last week, the state budgets for Fiscal Year 2019-2020 were passed by the Legislature and sent to Gov. Whitmer. While all budgets were signed, the governor issued 147 line-item vetoes across the 16 bills. In response, state Rep. John Chirkun (D-Roseville) issued the following statement:
“The budgets that were sent to the governor’s desk simply did not adequately address the needs of our communities, and Republican leadership knew that. With her line-item vetoes, Gov. Whitmer is pushing back — fighting for Michigan families and urging Republicans to come back to the negotiating table to fix their mistakes. Unfortunately, it seems they are unwilling to do so, and intend to continue playing political games at the expense of their constituents. I will continue to fight to ensure the priorities of our communities are reflected in the work done here in Lansing.”
