WARREN — Earlier this week, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and United Fresh Start Foundation donated a new salad bar to Mound Park Upper Elementary School as part of a national push to provide students with a greater number of healthy food options in the cafeteria. State Rep. Lori Stone (D-Warren) joined school officials for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the donation on Monday.
“As a life-long teacher, I know how important it is to ensure our children have regular access to fresh fruits and vegetables, both for their education and their long-term success,” said Stone. “I want to thank Blue Cross and United Fresh Start Foundation for their tremendous generosity in helping to bring these healthy choices to students here in our community and throughout the state.”
Through the national Salad Bars to Schools initiative, BCBSM has donated 91 salad bars to schools throughout the state since 2015. Mound Park Upper Elementary School is one of 17 schools in Michigan recently chosen to receive a new salad bar.
