Recently, I hosted a pair of community conversations to highlight the progress of the Border-to-Border Trail construction through our communities.
The meetings, held on October 23rd at the Tilden R. Stumbo Civic Center in Ypsilanti Township and on October 24th at the Ypsilanti Community and Senior Center at Recreation Park in the City of Ypsilanti, were jam packed with information about the trail. Officials from the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Department, including Director Coy Vaugh, Project Manager Roy Townsend, and Senior Park Planner Peter Sanderson, were on hand to lead the discussions.
The Border-to-Border Trail (B2B) is a non-motorized pathway that connects people to cities and parks throughout Washtenaw County. More than 40 miles of trail exists as a part of the B2B today, with 70 miles planned. In 2015, the B2B was incorporated into the State of Michigan’s Iron Belle Trail – a network of trails that is over 2,000 miles long and connects Belle Isle Park in Detroit to the city of Ironwood in the western upper peninsula.
Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation is excited to be a key agency partnering with the state of Michigan in the construction of the Iron Belle trail. I am very pleased with the work they are doing, not only on the B2B but also several other enhancement projects in the eastern county region.
