LANSING — The Speaker of the House appointed State Rep. Kyra Bolden (D-Southfield) to the House Ways and Means Committee, filling an opening created by the departure of former state Rep. Sheldon Neeley (D-Flint) following his election as Flint mayor late last year. Tasked with reviewing nearly all legislation reported out of the other standing House committees before reaching the floor, Bolden is now one of only two first-term legislators entrusted to serve on this important committee.
“It’s truly an honor to have been selected by Speaker Chatfield to serve the people of our state in this new role,” said Bolden. “I am excited to continue working alongside my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure we are fighting for the good policy every Michigander deserves and expects from their elected officials.”
Due to Bolden’s appointment to the House Ways and Means Committee, her role on the Insurance Committee will be filled by state Rep. Yousef Rabhi (D-Ann Arbor). Bolden remains Democratic Vice Chair for the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, and will continue serving on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates.
