The U.S. Supreme Court released its official opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case that restricted access to abortion prior to 15 weeks, ruling that abortion access should be up to individual states. SCOTUS also chose to overturn Roe v. Wade nearly 50 years after the historic case was decided, despite the majority of Americans supporting a person’s right to abortion. I know how scary it feels right now. Our right to bodily autonomy has been stripped away. There’s no doubt that further landmark rulings that granted and protected our rights are now at risk, but we can’t give up hope yet.
The right to access an abortion is up in the air for at least the time being. A Michigan law from 1931 banning abortion is being debated in state courts. Rest assured that I, along with my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate, are committed to fighting for every person’s right to access the reproductive health care that works best for them.
