BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Aug. 9, 2024 — State Rep. Joey Andrews (St. Joseph) presented a new automated external defibrillator (AED) to Benton Harbor High School on Friday. Recently signed legislation ensures schools maintain AEDs and make them accessible within one to three minutes during a cardiac emergency. In celebration of the new law, the NFL donated 50 AEDs for Michigan legislators to distribute to schools in their districts.
“Quick access to the proper equipment during a cardiac emergency can be the difference between life or death,” Andrews said. “I am grateful that the students, staff and administration at Benton Harbor High School will now be better protected thanks to this generously donated AED. There is no doubt that increasing access to this vital medical device across the state will save lives.”
