LANSING, Mich. Sept. 25, 2024 — Michigan House Democrats held a press conference today on a plan that would supplement funding for school systems across the state to use for school safety and mental health. This legislation would allow schools to spend responsibly on solutions tailored to each school’s individual needs, furthering Democrats’ legacy of putting schools and students first. After House Bill 5503′s passage, state Rep. Joey Andrews (D-St. Joseph) issued the following statement:

“Educational needs don’t just vary from district to district, but from school to school. That’s why we are offering legislation that empowers schools to make decisions for themselves on how funds can best be utilized. Schools in our community will now receive approximately $1 million to address their mental health and school safety resources. Our students, teachers and school administrators deserve the full support of the Michigan Legislature, which is why we are taking action today to keep our schools safe.
