LANSING — House Democrats announced their 2019-2020 leadership selections today, which included the appointment of state Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) as Democratic Caucus Chair. Anthony is entering her first full term in office after serving a partial term during the 2018 legislative session. A lifelong resident of Lansing, Anthony now represents the 68th House District, made up of part of Lansing and all of Lansing Township. Prior to her election, she served on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners, including as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board, and as Deputy Director of the Michigan College Access Network. Anthony is the first African-American woman to represent Lansing as its state representative. In response to today’s announcement, Rep. Anthony issued the following statement:
“I am honored to serve the residents of the Lansing area and the people of Michigan as the next Democratic Caucus Chair. I am so grateful for the opportunity to play a role in implementing the policy changes Michiganders so desperately need. Together, we will fight to make sure working families and seniors have a fair shake, fix our roads, and make health care and car insurance more affordable. One of my top priorities is to ensure everyone has a voice in our caucus– no matter your race, income, gender identity, or cultural background.”
