“Federal authorities have repeatedly stressed the urgency behind this legislation, reporting over 70 million counterfeit airbags recalled in 2019. I’m proud of the bipartisan and bicameral support these important bills have received throughout the legislative process, along with the broad range of stakeholders and leaders in the automotive, manufacturing and public safety industries. Michiganders have enough to worry about right now—we shouldn’t have to worry about the integrity of the airbags in our vehicles. As we wait for Gov. Whitmer to sign this legislation into law, I am hopeful it will serve as a reminder that government is capable of coming together to protect the people we serve.”
