LANSING — Last night, the Speaker of the House announced the committee assignments for the 2019-20 legislative session. State Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) was appointed to serve on the House Appropriations Committee and as the Democratic vice chair of the Higher Education and Community Colleges Subcommittee, as well as serving on both the Corrections and LARA and DIFS subcommittees.
“The state’s budget is more than the allocation of funds—it’s a statement of our priorities and values as a state,” said Anthony. “I am determined to align Michigan’s budget with the priorities of working families, so every Michigander has access to a quality education, government services and fair application and administration of justice, regardless of their ZIP code, socioeconomic status or political affiliation.”
Anthony is entering her first full term in office after serving a partial term during the 2018 legislative session representing the 68th House District. Prior to her election, she served on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners, including as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board, and as Deputy Director of the Michigan College Access Network. While serving as Deputy Director of MCAN Anthony worked to get Public Act 151 signed into law and lead their equity in education effort. Anthony is committed to making sure that when someone starts a journey toward a degree or job training, they have the resources and support they need to complete it.
