Tentative deal would include grade separation, reconstruction at Allen Road
TAYLOR — State Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown) was joined by State Senator Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit), Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Woodhaven Mayor Pat Odette, and Wayne County Executive Warren Evans to announce a tentative deal to alleviate chronic traffic delays at the Allen Road rail crossing in Woodhaven. The rail crossing has been a decades-long issue for Downriver residents, often blocking traffic and obstructing emergency services for hours at a time.
“By bringing people together and reaching a deal to finally complete this project, we’re delivering results for Downriver residents— finding a solution to this problem after decades of attempts,” said Camilleri. “With this grade separation, our community will be safer and have more opportunities for economic development. I’m excited that the $12 million we secured in the state budget could be a catalyst to finally get this project started.”
The project will create a grade separation at Allen Road by elevating the train crossing above the road, which will be lowered by more than 20 feet to allow motorists to pass freely under the bridge, and will be constructed with a combination of state, local, and federal funds.
