LANSING – State Representative John Kivela (D-Marquette) today participated in the House swearing-in ceremony during the official opening of the 97th session of the Michigan House of Representatives in Lansing. Kivela will represent the 109th House District, which comprises Alger, Luce and Schoolcraft counties and part of Marquette County.

“I thank the good people of House District 109 for entrusting me to be their voice at the Capitol. I’m ready to pick up where former Rep. Steve Lindberg left, off advocating for our middle-class families, senior citizens and our children,” Kivela said.

Kivela said he will always be available to residents by phone, at 517-373-0498, and by email at JohnKivela@house.mi.gov. He also encourages residents to go to his webpage, www.kivela.housedems.com, and sign up for his e-newsletter that will keep them up to date on the work he is doing at the Capitol.

“We have a lot of work to do for our families, our children and our communities,” Kivela said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on what is best for the families of the Upper Peninsula and our great state as a whole and fulfill the promises I made to fight for our kids’ education and promote economic development projects specific to our unique location in the state.”

Joining Kivela at the swearing-in ceremony were his wife Sandy, son Andrew and daughter Shelby.
