LANSING — State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) introduced House Resolution 16 today to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Michigan Farm Bureau on Feb 4, 2019. The resolution was adopted by the House.
“The Michigan Farm Bureau played a crucial role in the development of this state and the countless communities that are sustained by our rich agricultural heritage,” said Witwer. “As the voice of the industry for 100 years, they have represented and advocated for the interests of our varying agricultural producers, while creating opportunities for all. It is important we recognize their consistent contributions to our communities and state, and this resolution is a great way to show our sincere appreciation.”
Michigan organized a state federation of county Farm Bureaus in 1919, following Missouri, Massachusetts and Vermont who did so in 1915. Today, Michigan Farm Bureau is headquartered in Eaton County and is the state’s largest general farm organization. They provide student scholarships and grants, host community-building events, create food literacy programs for kids, and fund many efforts to protect Michigan’s environment, water quality, and farmland.
