LANSING, Mich., March 10, 2023 — The Michigan House passed several major pieces of legislation this week. One bill that was passed was House Bill 4007, which ensures the government only does business with contractors who pay their workers a fair wage. Following its passage, state Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac), who sponsored and spoke in support of the bill, issued the following statement:

“House Democrats promised workers that we would stand with them and support them, and we made good on that promise. Thank you to all my colleagues who supported this legislation. For the past several years, I have worked to get prevailing wage restored in the state of Michigan, and we have taken the first steps toward doing just that. Together, we will make Michigan a better place for people to live and work. This bill passage showed hardworking Michiganders that we have their backs and that we will support them.”

HB 4007 now moves to the Senate.
