LANSING, Mich., June 30, 2023 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed the state’s fiscal 2023-24 budget this week. With the many high-priority wins for Michigan and for state Rep. Felicia Brabec’s (D-Pittsfield) district, there is one in particular to be highlighted. Brabec secured over $1 million for Forestbrooke Pool. Forestbrooke is a small, family-friendly pool located in the Forestbrooke neighborhood.

“Ever since I visited Forestbrooke Pool, I was charmed by it. I’ve worked immensely hard to secure these investments — Forestbrooke is a thriving community hub. Community spots like this are hard to come by and are a dying breed,” Brabec said. “At this local space, families gather, kids play, and the community comes together for many summer days. Not only that, the pool hosts swim lessons, has its own dive team, and holds monthly family barbecues. This pool wouldn’t be possible without the commitment, and dedication by forestbrook members. I am so lucky to have such a unique spot in my district, and I couldn’t be happier that this budget was passed with them in mind.”

“The Forestbrooke Pool is a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive space for neighbors of all ages to come together and celebrate community, and this additional funding will be critical to repair existing infrastructure and make the facilities gender inclusive and accessible for all,” Ann Arbor City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem Travis Radina said. “I’m immensely proud of state Representative Brabec’s community-focused leadership and steadfast advocacy to ensure this project was included in the budget, and I’m so grateful for her willingness to work with me, as a council member for this neighborhood, to secure this extremely important funding for our community.”

Forestbrooke Pool is a heated, 20-yard pool. During regular hours, most of the pool is dedicated to leisure swimming, with one lap lane always available. Outside regular hours, Forestbrooke holds adult swim hours, as well as classes in water aerobics, yoga and zumba. as well as a synchronized swimming class and private swim lessons.

“The Forestbrooke Pool is a volunteer run nonprofit organization. It has served our community as a  gathering space for over 60 years. A place where multiple generations and a diverse community engage and come together. We strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for our entire community,” said J.J. Martinez, president of Forestbrooke Athletic Club. “These funds will be used to repair and replace our mostly original infrastructure while updating it to a more accessible and inclusive space. We will be able to ensure that Forestbrooke Pool will continue its mission for the next 60 years. Our whole community is extremely grateful for Representative Brabec’s leadership and support to our community.”
