Legislator looks ahead to lowering costs, keeping neighborhoods safe

LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her seventh State of the State Address before a joint legislative session today. In her speech, the governor discussed her plan to lower costs for families ahead of looming tariffs, increase the workforce and deliver results for the people of Michigan. After the address, state Rep. Kelly Breen (D-Novi) issued the following statement:

“I was honored to bring County Commissioner Gwen Markham as my guest to the governor’s address this evening to commemorate the upcoming year of hard work and service to Michigan. The most effective policies are rooted in empathy — from lowering costs for working families to continuing to invest in neighborhood safety, we must work together with local leaders to uplift our communities.

“I greatly anticipate seeing the excitement of this evening reflected in policy negotiations with my colleagues in the House in the coming months. I will not stop fighting for every single Michiganders’ right to know with full confidence that their state has their back.”
