State Rep. Julie Brixie (D-Meridian Township) testifies in the House Appropriations committee on April 24, 2024.

LANSING, Mich., June 27, 2024 — The Michigan Legislature passed the final state budget for the 2025 fiscal year ahead of the legally required July 1 deadline. Democratic leaders crafted a budget focused on strategic, targeted investments that improve the lives of people and hometowns across Michigan without raising taxes. After the vote, state Rep. Julie Brixie (D-Meridian Township), Chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations subcommittee, issued the following statement:

“Investments in agriculture and natural resources are investments in the future of our hometowns as we continue to address the ongoing climate crisis. Our $5 million in funding for the Double Up Food Bucks program incentivizes the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables by SNAP recipients. Our $6.1 million investment in Agricultural Climate Resiliency through Michigan State University promotes the culture of regenerative agriculture. Our $1.7 million investment in Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative will develop a non-motorized border-to-border trail and connect our Michigan communities. These investments all work together to address the ongoing climate crisis on a local scale and create greener communities across Michigan. Go green!”
