LANSING — Yesterday, the Michigan House of Representatives adjourned for an in-district work period without passing a supplemental state budget. In response, State Rep. Sara Cambensy (D-Marquette) issued the following statement:

“It's a sad day today. As legislators leave for a three week break, we do so without an updated budget that restores necessary funding for our rural schools, hospitals, local governments, veterans, law enforcement agencies and other critical areas.

“We said we didn’t want to be like Washington where nothing gets done. Drafting and passing a supplemental budget bill was the most important task we had to accomplish this week and both sides, both parties failed our local residents.

“The public is tired of watching leaders come out of negotiations pointing the finger at each other about why we can’t get the supplemental budget done. I’m tired of it, too. This isn’t leadership. Every elected official in Lansing works for the people of this state, and we are failing them miserably right now because of petty politics.”
