LANSING — U.S. Steel announced yesterday that it would indefinitely idle part of its Great Lakes Works site in Ecorse and River Rouge, laying off as many as 1,500 steelworkers. In response, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown) issued the following statement:

“This recent announcement just goes to show what’s at stake when Washington prioritizes policies that undermine skilled American workers who have dedicated their lives to their craft. My heart goes out to these hardworking Michiganders and their families, and I encourage anyone from our Downriver community who has been affected by this closure to reach out to me and my office if they are in need of support or services during this time of transition.”
